Summary of Project: Plastic pollution is driving the triple planetary crisis. However, politics, ineffective science communication, and an increase in the severity and frequency of environmental disasters are limiting eco-action. In response, I am conducting transdisciplinary research with scientists investigating microplastics and nanoplastics, implementing SciArt workshops with community members, and building immersive installations from collected marine plastic. I aim to disseminate critical research; provide spaces where viewers can process, reflect on, and discuss this research; and drive plastic-based eco-action.

Collaborations

JRC:

Since June 2022 I have served as an External Expert to the JRC of the European Commission, working directly with the JRC’s SciArt Project. Collaborating with scientists and policy-makers investigating microplastics and nanoplastics, we co-created the project: Plastic Magnitudes. This ongoing project was first exhibited in 2024 as a part of the group exhibition NaturArchy: Towards a Natural Contract at iMAL – Center for Digital Cultures and Technology, Brussels. Plastic Magnitudes will be re-installed at European Ocean Days 2025, European Maritime Day 2025, and European Green Week 2025.
