What is Erasmus+?
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport, helping people gain learning experiences abroad.
It offers students, faculty and staff the opportunity to study, train, volunteer or take part in exchanges in other European or partner countries.
Erasmus is a valuable opportunity for both personal growth and future career development.
Burren College of Art has recently been awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021 – 2027, which sets clear quality standards for institutions that take part in European programs like Erasmus+.
By following the ECHE, third level educations institutions commit to principles such as equal access, transparency, academic recognition and high-quality teaching and support for participants.
The Charter builds trust between institutions across Europe and protects the rights and opportunities of everyone involved in higher education mobility.

Burren College of Art begins its journey with Erasmus with great excitement and anticipation, seeing it as a valuable opportunity to broaden the horizons of students, faculty and staff. Through participation in the programme, BCA hopes to create meaningful international exchanges that will enrich learning, teaching and creative practice.
Engaging with diverse cultures, perspectives and educational approaches will enhance the overall experience at Burren College of Art and support its commitment to artistic growth, collaboration and innovation within a wider European and international context.
Erasmus Policy Statement
Burren College of Art’s Erasmus Policy Statement aligns closely with the internationalisation and quality principles upheld by its degree-awarding partner, the University of Galway.
As an institution whose postgraduate degrees are accredited and conferred by the University of Galway, Burren College of Art supports Erasmus mobility in a way that complements the University’s existing commitment to student and staff exchanges across Europe, helping participants gain valuable academic, cultural, and professional experience.
By integrating Erasmus opportunities within its own academic and quality framework, BCA aims to ensure that all study and teaching abroad experiences are enriching, fully recognised and consistent with broader European higher-education goals.
