Summer School 2012Creativity, Collaboration and the BurrenA multi-disciplinary course in creativity, embedded through social engagement in the Burren.May 26th - June 23th, 2012 This 4 week interdisciplinary, project-based summer school invites artists of all genres, environmentalists and scientists to engage directly with the Burren and its communities and to present a collaborative creative response to its emerging issues. Projects may be socially engaged or environmentally based. The Burren – a uniquely complex and delicate ecosystem – is the living laboratory for the Summer school. Regarded on one hand as a beautiful wilderness, the Burren has been transformed by human activity for over five millennia. This enigmatic landscape presents a microcosm of global issues, amplifying the tensions that arise when man and nature seek to coexist and respond to a fast paced society. Led by a faculty of artists and environmentalists, students will research the people, the physical environment and the creative potential of the Burren. They will work independently and collaboratively across disciplines with the Burren landscape and its people and will focus on developing a creative response to some key issues that will be identified in advance . Research and making will take place in the studios and workshops of the College and on site in the environment as appropriate. All participants will have dedicated studio space. Six credits are available to students registered on an undergraduate degree programme. Closing date for applications: Friday March 2nd, 2012 |
