Burren College of Art Awards

  1. Michael Greene Memorial Scholarship Fund
    This Trust provides means-based part scholarships to facilitate participation by the most talented artists from overseas on the MFA programme. A number of awards up to €5,000 per year of tuition are made. Selection is based on evaluation of financial need and portfolio assessment.
  2. Burren College of Art President's Award
    We want to encourage and facilitate the best Irish and EU artists to consider postgraduate level study in Fine Art and to this end we are offering 5 postgraduate scholarships for Irish and EU students of outstanding talent whose work would benefit from the Burren experience. The scholarship is up to €10,000 per annum towards the cost of tuition. All Irish and EU applicants will be considered for one of these scholarships. Selection is based on portfolio evaluation.

    1. Federal Financial Aid for US Students
      Successful US students seeking federal financial aid should note that for this purpose the designated institution is the National University of Ireland, Galway (ID No: G12766) rather than the Burren College of Art. If applying for federal aid you should look at NUI Galway Student Fees & Grants webpage for information on tracking you application.

    2. The Department of Education
      The maintenance grant is the main source of funding available from the Irish government and information on eligibility and grant levels is available from the website www.studentfinance.ie - this is a very comprehensive website that will guide you through the application process and also contains information on other available funding such as the Millenium Partnership Fund and funds for students with disabilities.
    3. The O'Reilly Foundation Scholarship Programme

      O'Reilly Scholars are Irish/EU individuals who have an excellent academic record and have demonstrated leadership qualities, as well as the potential and desire to make a significant contribution to the future of Ireland.
    4. NUI Galway Research Scholarships
      NUI Galway have a range of scholarships available to students pursuing PhD studies. For a full list of scholarships and application requirements visit www.nuigalway.ie/postgrad/fees
    5. The Leverhulme Trust "Study Abroad Scholarships"
      Web: www.leverhulme.org.uk
      This scheme supports postgraduate-level and postdoctoral-level scholars. Its aim is to support students from the UK to spend an extended period of advanced study or research at a centre of learning overseas. Approximately 20 awards are offered annually.
    6. Government Exchange Scholarships
      Students from outside of Ireland wishing to obtain postgraduate academic year scholarships to Ireland should contact their own Ministries fro Education or Foreign Affairs. The application forms are available every year in February. Application forms must be evaluated and processed through their own relevant Ministry. Information on the reciprocal process for Irish students wishing to study in another country that may be useful is available from the Irish government website.
    7. The US-Ireland Alliance
      This organisation sponsors a prestigious, competitive, national scholarship to enable US citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 to study at universities on the island of Ireland. The George J. Mitchell Scholarships are intended to familiarise and engage the next generation of America's leaders with the island of Ireland. These scholarships allow Americans to pursue one year of post-graduate study in any discipline offered at institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Mitchell Scholarship provided tuition and housing for one year along with international travel and a living expenses stipend.

    8. The Fulbright Program
      The Fulbright Commission operate The Fulbright Program which assists US citizens to lecture, study or research in Ireland. A number of different awards are available and full details can be found on www.fulbright.ie
    9. UNESCO Fellowhsips
      Students from African countries should contact their own Government's Ministry of Education for details of funding options in the first instance. All UNESCO applications must be chanelled through the National Commission for UNESCO of the candidate's country(Application Form)
    10. The African Educational Trust offers a number of scholarships to students from Southern Africa (mostly Namibia and South Africa) especially those students who are unable to study in their home country due to political or educational discrimination.
