Emerging Irish Artist Residency Award

Burren College of Art established the Emerging Irish Artist Residency Award in 2015. This award offers a one-month residency for four exceptional artists, along with two exhibitions at the Burren College of Art gallery and 126 Gallery in Galway.  We invite applications from recent graduates and emerging artists from Ireland who are highly motivated and would like the opportunity to receive the following:

  • A 4m X 4m artist’s studio space for one month with access to all college facilities.

  • Participation in a group exhibition in two venues: BCA Gallery/G126 Galway.

  • The opportunity to present a lecture and engage with the College community at BCA.

  • A bursary to cover materials, travel, food, etc. and exhibition fee

  • Free accommodation for the duration of the residency and during gallery installation for the BCA exhibition.

We welcome applications from artists working in any medium including: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Performance Art and New Media.

Four selected artists will receive a free one-month residency award. They will curate and organise a group show based on their time in the Burren and their shared experience, which will be held in the BCA Gallery following the end of the residency, and then will travel to G126 Gallery in Galway. Awardees also have the opportunity to present a lecture and engage with students and the broader College community.

NOTE: The EIARA has been suspended due to the covid-19 pandemic in 2020, though we hope to renew the award in 2021-2022.  Further details on the award and call for applications will be posted in late 2021.
