Doctor of Philosophy in studio art (pHD)

Admissions

Applicants should have a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Fine Art (First class or 2:1, or a GPA of 3.50 or above), or a Masters Degree in Fine Art.

Applicants with an MFA degree may apply for a three year programme of research leading to the award of PhD.

Applicants who do not have an MFA may apply for the MFA with the possibility of progression to PhD, with two options at the end of Year 1:

  • Research for two more years leading to the award of PhD
  • Research for one more year leading to the award of MFA

Applications for the PhD are in two stages:

STAGE 1
Applicants submit an application form, outline research profile, portfolio and two letters of recommendation, a copy of their birth certificate and an application fee of €50. All eligible applicants are interviewed.

STAGE 2
Shortlisted applicants submit a revised research proposal for discussion and further revision until it is suitable for registration, at which time the applicant is admitted with effect from either September or January.
