Faculty
Tom Flanagan,
Art in Context & Sculpture Lecturer
Tom’s recent work is concerned with the emerging domain of digitally expanded cinema . His work utilises film, performance, installation , screen and sculptural objects to explore the ideas surrounding the cinematic experience which is essentially the art of organising an experience of audiovisual events through space and time. The works challenge the viewer's experience to create alternative forms and dialogue with the audio visual experience.
The constructs of Tom’s exhibitions and cinematic installations present a subliminal landscape shifting with intense imagery, sounds and odd juxtapositions exploring ideas of displacement in everyday experience, the human condition and its metamorphosis. Videos and installations present real and fictional characters where images and actions collude in the pursuit of a growing body of personal mythologies and archetypes.
