SponsorshipAccess to Art Education for AllIn offering an artist-driven model of third-level art education, the Burren College of Art offers an alternative to the cash-driven, mass education model of state-funded education. In doing this we aim to represent what art education can and should be. We aim to set the standards of quality by which other art colleges can be measured. This is part of our vision to become the greatest little art college in the world. The success of this approach at undergraduate level, led as a natural progression to the development of a Master of Fine Art programme in 2003 and PhD in Studio Art in 2009. Both the two- year MFA and three-year PhD are full-time post graduate degrees accredited by NUI Galway and offered in association with The Royal College of Art, London and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago - both world leaders in art education. This novel collaborative approach gives students the opportunity to work in the creative environment of the Burren with access to visiting artists from London and Chicago and to the facilities, scholarship and mentoring of NUI Galway. The programme is intense and includes 30 individual contact hours per week for each student, a professional practice module to equip students in their lives as professional artists, visits by twenty international artists per annum and guided annual trips to the art galleries of London and Paris. Fulfilling the VisionSuch a high calibre education is expensive to provide. Current annual tuition fees of €17,035 put it beyond the reach of many talented students. Our goal is to make this unique programme available to the best and brightest students in Ireland and in time students from every other country in the world. Already we have attracted artists and students from the European, American and Asian continents, but many have yet to be reached and to benefit from the BCA. As a not-for-profit organisation without the benefit of operational state funding, we have embarked on a scholarship campaign to help attain this goal. We invite you to support this campaign by becoming a patron.
