2010 - SpringCharleville Forest Castle Project

As part of the photography program at BCA students are encouraged to participate in collaborative, community based and in-the-field assignments, which may offer direct contact with aspects of Irish culture, history and contemporary life. Charleville Forest Castle in Co. Offaly is a particularly rich site offering potential for students to authentically learn and develop the skills a photographer often requires, to respond quickly to an unusual context or situation. Through the generous and welcoming support of the current owners and trustees, we have again this year been able to bring students on a 24 hour assignment, to this very unique site.
This gallery feature work by Janine Di Lorenzo, Suzanne Calkins, Margaret Baczewski, Steph Richardson, Mika Vance, Megan Drmota, Lindsey Sawtell, Kelly Filreis, Alyson Coward, Max Grove, Brian Nigus and Brittany Ingram.

Gina Rymarscuk - Resident at Burren College of Art in June and July 2009.
She works in photography and digital media. Her research is deeply rooted in the study of optics, the body of the camera, the physics of light and often immersed in the formulaic and procedural study of the photographic process. She investigates the nature of visual illusion, linguistic construction, feats of architecture, and avian structure, while implementing analog and digital technologies in a systemic process of collection, analysis, distillation and assembly. She examines informational structure and communication as well as the collection, translation, preservation and degradation of data.

The Vivid Season - BCA Summer Scholarship Exhibition 2010

This year the Summer Scholarship Exhibition at Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare is open from Friday 18th June. It is titled “The Vivid Season”. The title reflects the flowering of creativity associated with graduate studies in an art school and the time of year in which the exhibition is taking place, as well as the colourful character of most of the exhibits (pinks and reds predominate). Altogether it’s an upbeat title and an upbeat looking show.
The works, all at reasonable prices are for sale and proceeds go into the BCA Scholarship Fund to help finance the education of Fine Art students.
